A Literate is someone who is able to read and write and is well aware of the importance of education and knowledge. Over one-quarter of the adult population is not fully literate. A literate person is one who can understand, read and write a simple statement every day of life. A person can be literate in any language or can grasp knowledge from anywhere regarding anything. The young toddler is literate, and able to fully read and write at a very young age and several programs are put up to help people who are not able to read and write. Literacy not only enriches an individual's life but also opens up career opportunities and develops skills for better growth and achievement. Lacking basic reading and writing skills is a tremendous disadvantage.
