The new political map of India has stirred controversy in Nepal with both states, Kathmandu as well as New Delhi claiming to the Kalapani region as their country’s territory. Nepal’s upper house has approved a new map for the country that includes India controlled lands, which, as a result, has strained both the country’s relationships. India controls a slice of land including Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh, and Kalapani area sat the North West and hence it has rejected that map. The reasons given were the fact that it is not even based on any historical pieces of evidence or data. The law minister Shiva Thunbahampe told parliament that they have enough facts with evidence. “We will sit with India to resolve the dispute through diplomatic negotiations,” says the minister. Nepal was never under any colonial rule and has long claimed the areas of Limpiyadhura, Kalapani, and Lipulekh under a treaty with British East India Company, although these areas have remained under Indian troop’s control long since Indo-China War.
