The new political map of India has stirred controversy in Nepal with both states, Kathmandu as well as New Delhi claiming to the Kalapani region as their country’s territory. Nepal’s upper house has approved a new map for the country that includes India controlled lands, which, as a result, has strained both the country’s relationships. Nepal was never under any colonial rule and has long claimed the areas of Limpiyadhura, Kalapani, and Lipulekh under a treaty with British East India Company, although these areas have remained under Indian troop’s control long since Indo-China War.
