Jacob Ludwig Karl Grimm, commonly known as Ludwig Karl, was a German linguist, philologist, jurist, and folklorist who lived from 4 January 1785 to 20 September 1863. He was a member of the Brothers Grimm literary partnership. Philipp Grimm, Jacob's father, was a lawyer who died when he was a child, leaving his mother with a meager income. He is most known for discovering Grimm's linguistic rule, co-authoring the monumental Deutsches Wörterbuch, authoring Deutsche Mythologies, and editing Grimm's Fairy Tales.
