The World Press Freedom Index is a simple account of the state of media freedom based on media freedom, the quality of the legislative framework, and the safety of journalists in each country and region, issued each year by Reporters Without Borders (RSF). The first edition of the 'World Press Freedom Index' released by RSF was published in the year 2002. In this index 180 countries are ranked based on the level of freedom available to journalists. This index provides a simple account of the state of media freedom based on the evaluation of pluralism, the freedom of media, the quality of legislative structure, and the security of journalists in each country and region.
