Aurobindo was a man of spiritual nature and versatile talent, who is known to the world as a revolutionary freedom fighter, great scholar, yogi and great spiritual philosopher. At the age of 18, Arvind got admission in Cambridge. It was here that he distinguished himself as a student of European classics. To follow his father's wish, he also applied for the ICS while at Cambridge. He passed the Indian Civil Services Examination with full confidence in 1890. However, he failed to pass a required horse riding test and was therefore not allowed to enter the civil service of the Government of India.
