Jane Eyre is a novel written by Charlotte Bronte but published with the pen name “Currer Bell”. The book was officially published on October 16, 1847, by Smith, Elder, and Co., Cornhill in the United Kingdom. The book is written in the English language. The story of the novel revolves around a character, named Jane Eyre who finds her way in social standards and forms love with her brooding master named Mr. Rochester. The book has a total of 38 chapters and was published in three volumes. The novel is based on gothic elements, religion, love and family, gender inequality, and social standards. Jane is a ten-year-old orphan girl who lives in North England and has been raised by her aunt Mrs. Reed. Jane is afraid of knowing that she can see ghosts and faints on getting panic attacks. She is the main protagonist who struggles with independence and bravery. Mr. Rochester is the owner of Thornfield Hall. Many of the events mentioned in the novel are based on Bronte’s real life. The various symbols mentioned in the novel which strongly attract the readers are The Red Room, Bertha Mason, Fire and Ice in which jane gets locked up in The Red Room.
